✨ This & That

🎥🍿 The fine folks over at the Rivoli made an amazing discovery this week after hiring an artist to paint a mural for them on one of their walls. After beginning the process of removing some wallpaper, the artist discovered that this work of art was already taking up residence on that wall:

Needless to say, they have decided to keep the original there, further cementing the Rivoli as a center of community culture.

🚒 The Onalaska Fire Department is participating in a cool initiative to give a visual representation to the importance of fire safety this year. Their “Keep the Wreath Green” initiative runs November 29 through January 1.

During this time period, one green bulb will be replaced by one red bulb for every structure fire that occurs in the area.

The Campbell, Holmen Area, Onalaska, West Salem, Shelby, La Crescent, and La Crosse Fire Departments will all be participating.

🎄 Looking to Spread Some Holiday Cheer?

Kristin Vix, a resident of La Crescent, is leading a holiday project called “Adopt a Grandparent” to ensure that no senior citizen at her local nursing home goes without a gift or a visit this holiday season.

The holidays can be a lonely time for our senior citizens, but you can help fund this effort to ensure they get a visit and a present this year.

📅 What’s Happenin’

🎥😂 Tonight at 5:00pm in the Screening Room and 8:15pm in the Main Theater, the Rivoli will be hosting a one day only screening of HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS, a “gloriously bananas, delightful bonkers, beautifully made, black and white, action-comedy film that is just too much dam fun”.

🏃‍♂️👟 Every Monday, the River City Running Club hosts a Monday Funday group run that starts at Howie’s on La Crosse St. According to the club, all paces are welcome and there are 1 and 3 mile routes available. You can stay afterwards for socialization and burgers at Howie’s. They advise bringing your own headlamp and reflective gear!

📕🏡 La Crosse County Historical Society is hosting a Hixon Family Dinner this weekend! There are various time slot options from Friday through Sunday. Here’s what they have to say about the event:

“In 1906, the three adult Hixon sons, who were living out of town, returned to La Crosse to spend the holidays with their family. Come join us as we recreate a Hixon family Christmas gathering at Hixon House. Mrs. Hixon, her niece May, and all the Hixon sons and daughters-in-law will be present. The table is set for a sumptuous meal, the house is cheerfully decorated, and the fires are burning brightly!”

After the dinner, there will be refreshments and other activities. Some time slots are available for those with young children.
