☀️ Good Morning—and welcome to Good Morning, Coulee—the newsletter that starts strong so you can, too.

Today on Good Morning, Coulee:

😂 Have you ever been to a show at the Marie W. Heider Center for the Arts? Here’s your chance—Assisted Living: The Musical is on the main stage later this month. Here are the details »

💼 Job hunting can be dull. But we’ve made it fun, by scouring the boards for the best opportunities in the Coulee Region for you. Check them out in our Jobs section!

🧵 If it makes you feel better to fix something instead of buying something new—you might want to check out the repair cafe happening at the library this weekend »

🐶 We’ll feature a rather dapper pet of the week that was submitted by one of our readers.

Alright, that’s quite a to-do list for this morning. Let’s get to it. 👇

I want to introduce you to Derek and Levi, the co-owners of Coulee Concrete Repair. These two run their business the way things used to be done—built on family values, an old-fashioned work ethic, and treating every customer like a neighbor.

What I love most is how straightforward they are. No gimmicks, no hidden costs—just honest quoting and work that speaks for itself. And it’s not just me saying that… their reviews are filled with people praising their professionalism, reliability, and the kind of craftsmanship you can trust.

If you’ve got uneven sidewalks, cracked driveways, or sinking slabs, Derek and Levi are the guys to call. They’ll get it done right—the first time.

Here’s what I was listening to when I wrote this email.👇

🐾 Meet Hobbes!

This week’s reader-submitted Pet of the Week is Hobbes—a distinguished gentleman who knows the power of a good bow tie and a calm presence. 🐕🎩

Whether he’s keeping watch over the house or lounging in his favorite cozy spot, Hobbes does it all with quiet confidence and unmistakable charm. A true reminder that style and grace never go out of fashion (especially when paired with a plaid bow tie).

Here’s to Hobbes. He’s proving every day that good dogs make great company. ❤️

The past few years have been quite a stir for the Minnesota progressive folk-rock-country Maygen & The Birdwatcher. In late 2021 they released their debut full-length album, Moonshine, earning them Midwest Country Music Awards for Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year

They continued the momentum in late 2022, releasing Moonshine’s companion EP, with the “lively and charming” Bootleggin’ At The Flower Shoppe. which had them taking home wins for the 2023 Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year at the Midwest Country Music Organization’s annual awards for Bootleggin’ At The Flower Shoppe.

The Americana folk band adventurously blurs the sounds of country, bluegrass, folk, and blues. Lead singers Maygen Lacey, and Noah Neumann intentionally work to draw on their vastly different musical influences and vocal styles to bring a fresh and unexpected mix of songs to light. From beauty to grit, sadness to silliness, the common thread is that this crew loves music, and playing it together, and it shows.

Bluff View is really David & Lori Schipper’s house and they push back the furniture and open up to touring musicians four times a year since 2008. This is open to music lovers who are willing to donate $15-20 a person to the BYOB basket when they come in. No tickets required, but Dave asks for reservations in case there is a sold out house.
